Movie Music Roundup

Im gonna post some links to some really good bits of some movie soundtracks. These aren’t in any particular order they are just very good bits to some soundtracks that I enjoy.

1. Pans Labyrinth-Music Written by Javier Navarrete- The lullaby in Pan’s Labyrinth is one of the most beautiful, sad and touching pieces of music i have heard in a while. Javier Navarrete really capture the core of the film in this soundtrack, and it will stick with you long after you watch the film.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19bBGxf5k6k

2. Looper-Music Written by Nathan Johnson-I didn’t really notice the soundtrack to Looper until i watched it a few times. This part of the soundtrack occurs at the ending of the movie, and it really ties the movie together. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZivyIoKQ9k

3. Dark Knight Rises- Music Written By Hans Zimmer- This in my opinion is one of Hans Zimmer’s better movie scores. My favorite part of the score in particular is when Bruce Wayne is climbing out of the pit. It is a powerful moment in the film, and Hans Zimmer really captures the moment with his score.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Homukj0sBYU

4. Oblivion- Music Written by M83- Director Joseph Kosinski really has a knack for picking who to do the soundtracks for his films. He got Daft Punk to score his Tron Legacy, and he got M83, an amazing french electronic artist to score his recent film Oblivion. It really is an amazing score, and was probably one of the better parts of the movie.   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnYsgZdDHfM

5. Kill Bill Vol 1- Soundtrack by Tarantino-All of Tarantino’s soundtracks are amazing, but in particular his soundtrack for Kill Bill Vol 1 (as well as Django) was incredible, and really made the movie awesome. Here are two different parts of the soundtrack that are pretty awesome.

Music News (that is relevant)

First off, a few days ago, Radiohead announced their first real tour dates (they had a special appearance at Glastonbury, which doesn’t really count) on the 28th and 29th of September in the Roseland Ballroom in New York. While in New York, they will be the music guest on the season premiere of SNL this saturday (hosting is Alec Baldwin), and appear on a special one hour episode of the Colbert Report, where they will perform and be interviewed. Radiohead reportedly will tour in 2012.

In less happy news, R.E.M have decided to break up after over three decades of being together, which is very sad, sad news. They made this decision after compiling a gigantic greatest hits album, the lead singer saying that he hopes fans realize this was a very hard decision to make. Here is a really good reflective article of R.E.M’s career from Rolling Stone if you want to read it:http://www.rollingstone.com/culture/blogs/pop-life/r-e-m-r-i-p-thank-you-for-running-it-into-the-ground-20110922

Music 2011 (Alt Rock)

If you are a fan of Alt Rock, 2011 is a great year for you. Here are some upcoming albums that i am really excited for:

1. Untitled Radiohead Album- According to guitarist Johnny Greenwood of Radiohead, their follow-up to 2007’s outstanding “In Rainbows” is almost done and should be coming this year, and most likely in the first half of the year. I am very excited for this album because Radiohead is one of the best artist out there, having close to 100 great songs, and having so many perfect albums (The Bends, OK Computer, Kid A). Overall, Knowing Thom Yorke and the crew, this should be another great album from Radiohead.

2. Untitled Red Hot Chili Peppers Album- I have been looking forward to this album since i got into the Peppers a few years ago. It is great to know that they are off Hiatus for one and are making a new album, since the Chili Peppers are my favorite band. This album has also pissed me off due to the fact that it was supposed to come out October of last year, and then March of this year, and now they finally have a date of June of this year. Supposedly they have over 20 songs done already, so expect another Stadium Arcadium sized album coming. Also, there is supposed to be piano in this album, so that should be interesting, since it is new territory for the Chili Peppers.

3. Rise Against-Endgame-Release Date: March 15- You may not have heard of Rise Against, but they are a very talented Alt Rock group, having such songs like Give it All and Prayer of the Refugee, which all are amazing. Their new album is coming very soon and from the early sounds of it, it sounds amazing. Here is their first single from the new album: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ItEvTzv9B9s

4. Untitled Coldplay Album- Coldplay has released some of the prettiest music in the last ten years, ranging from Clocks to Viva La Vida. I am very excited to see what is in store for their next album, set to come out sometime this year. According to some sources, they haven’t finished any songs, but are well into many songs. Their Christmas single is the only christmas song i really like, so the album must end up being good.

5. Cage the Elephant- Thank You Happy Birthday- Out in stores- I have listened to some of their new album, which does not beat Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HKtsdZs9LJo) but they are a talented band and I expect it to be pretty good.
